Working on the flats for The Overview Effect provided me with an excellent opportunity to expand my texturing skills while collaborating with a talented team of scenic artists. After the flats were based, we applied a joint compound + paint mixture to each one, using plastic bags and bubble wrap to create unique textures. This was followed by the scumbling technique, as well as the use of a sponge roller with paint and water to add depth and nuance. A significant amount of distressing was then done to achieve a weathered, authentic finish.

The scene design for The Overview Effect involved extensive foam carving by the scenic artists. Once the sand dunes were shaped, they were textured using a blend of roof coating, paint, styrofoam, and cork. To enhance the realistic appearance of sand, the dunes were then covered in multiple shades of dyed cork.
